Quality Assurance Tester / Front-End Developer

Washington, DC
Full Time
Mid Level

Savan Group is seeking a Quality Assurance Tester / Front-End Developer to support the HUB application, an enterprise application used to manage and report on EPMO processes and workflows. This is a QA-first hybrid role with primary emphasis on functional quality, regression coverage, role-based workflow validation, usability, and release confidence. The selected candidate will work closely with developers, program leadership, testers, and business users to validate requirements, identify defects before release, improve user-facing behavior, and contribute small-to-medium front-end changes when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute manual functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing across new features, bug fixes, and releases.

  • Validate workflows from the perspective of different user roles, including role-based permissions, edit rights, visibility, approvals, and other authorization-dependent behavior.

  • Write clear, reusable test cases with expected results, test data, prerequisites, and evidence sufficient for repeatable regression testing.

  • Reproduce defects consistently and document concise reproduction steps, expected versus actual behavior, screenshots or other evidence, severity, and impacted roles/workflows.

  • Review requirements and acceptance criteria before development is complete to identify ambiguity, missing edge cases, usability risks, and testability gaps.

  • Implement targeted front-end fixes and enhancements using React, TypeScript, Material UI (MUI), and React Query / TanStack Query, including component behavior, forms, tables, filtering, validation, data fetching/caching, state synchronization, and responsive layout.

  • Evaluate usability and accessibility of user-facing changes, including keyboard behavior, labels, focus, readable states, error messaging, and Section 508/WCAG considerations.

  • Use browser developer tools, API responses, logs, and basic SQL queries to isolate whether issues originate in the UI, API, data, permissions, or environment.

  • Maintain disciplined Azure DevOps work-item updates and test evidence so defects, retests, release readiness, and production verification are traceable.

  • Support release validation in Test and production, including post-deployment verification of critical workflows and role-sensitive functionality.

  • Partner with developers and stakeholders to challenge confusing behavior and propose practical user-experience improvements that reduce errors and support effort.

  • Contribute to regression-suite maintenance and continuously identify high-risk workflows that should be added to recurring release testing.

Required Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Professional experience building, testing, or supporting modern web applications in a production environment.

  • Demonstrated manual functional and regression testing experience, including the ability to translate requirements and acceptance criteria into repeatable test cases.

  • Hands-on React and TypeScript experience, or comparable front-end framework experience with the ability to become productive in React/TypeScript quickly; familiarity with component libraries and client-side data-fetching patterns used in modern React applications.

  • Ability to document high-quality defect reproduction steps and communicate technical issues clearly to developers and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of browser developer tools and basic API concepts for troubleshooting web-application behavior.

  • Basic SQL literacy sufficient to validate data, investigate discrepancies, and collaborate effectively with backend/database developers.

  • Experience validating role-based permissions, user workflows, field behavior, error conditions, and edge cases.

  • Awareness of accessibility and Section 508/WCAG principles for user-facing web applications.

  • Experience working with Azure DevOps, Jira, or a comparable work-management platform to maintain defects, acceptance evidence, and release traceability.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, communication, accountability, adaptability, and ability to work collaboratively in an iterative delivery environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Material UI (MUI), MUI Data Grid or similar component libraries, and table-heavy business applications or complex enterprise forms and workflows.

  • Experience with React Query / TanStack Query or comparable client-side server-state/data-fetching libraries, including query invalidation, caching, loading/error states, and API-driven UI behavior. Experience validating front ends that integrate with REST APIs and .NET or comparable backend services.

  • Experience working in a React 18 / TypeScript environment using MUI, MUI Data Grid, and TanStack Query / React Query is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with SQL Server or similar relational databases.

  • Exposure to automated UI or API testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Postman, or comparable tools. Automation is helpful but is not the primary requirement for this role.

  • Experience supporting federal government applications, Section 508 testing, or environments with formal release and evidence requirements.

  • Experience participating in Agile sprint delivery, defect triage, release readiness reviews, and production verification.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
