Savan is seeking an FOIA Analyst to support the Department of Commerce (DOC) in processing and managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests. The FOIA Analyst will assist in the receipt, review, analysis, redaction, and response to FOIA requests in compliance with DOC regulations and federal FOIA statutes. The ideal candidate will have experience managing FOIA workflows, applying exemptions accurately, supporting backlog reduction efforts, and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Compensation Range:$70,000.00-$80,000.00

Role Responsibilities:
- Process and respond to FOIA and Privacy Act requests in accordance with DOC policies, the FOIA statute (5 U.S.C. § 552), and the Privacy Act.
- Review responsive records and apply appropriate FOIA exemptions and Privacy Act provisions to redact sensitive information.
- Draft acknowledgment letters, interim responses, and final determination letters using agency-specific FOIA tracking systems such as FOIAXpress.
- Track, monitor, and update the status of FOIA cases in the DOC’s case management system, ensuring accurate workload tracking and timely closures.
- Support backlog reduction efforts by prioritizing requests and coordinating with program offices to gather responsive records.
- Provide oral and written responses to inquiries from DOC program offices and other stakeholders regarding FOIA processing and requirements.
- Conduct quality control reviews of records and correspondence to ensure compliance with applicable laws and agency policies.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for senior leadership, including FOIA Annual Report data and ad hoc reports as required.
- Remain current on evolving FOIA and Privacy Act guidance, regulations, and trends, applying best practices to all casework.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting a federal agency’s FOIA program.
- Strong knowledge of the FOIA statute, FOIA exemptions, and the Privacy Act.
- Experience using FOIA processing tools, including FOIAXpress or comparable systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to manage multiple FOIA requests simultaneously while meeting statutory deadlines.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting professional correspondence.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with government clients and stakeholders.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Experience supporting FOIA operations at the Department of Commerce or its bureaus
- Experience with backlog reduction initiatives or FOIA process improvement efforts.
- Familiarity with DOC FOIA regulations and internal policies.
- Completion of FOIA-related training or certifications (e.g., DOJ Office of Information Policy FOIA Training, NARA FOIA Certification).
